Photos: Hluboká castle, Ceské Budejovice

The Czech Republic is crowded with castles, and a visit to one is an important part of any stay in this central European country. Hluboká castle is located about 10km from the centre of Ceske Budejovice (famous for Budweis beer), a pleasant two to three hour walk alongside rivers and through forests — just follow cycle path number 12. There’s a bus between Hluboká town and Ceske Budejovice if you don’t fancy another long walk back, or if you’d prefer to get to the castle more quickly.

Wandering around the gardens of the castle is free, but you must pay one of a staggering array of entrance prices to see various parts of the building.

Great photos! What is that on the stag head? Castles are one thing I have yet to encounter. One day it will happen until photos are the next best thing.

Hi Thomas, not sure what you’re seeing on the stag’s head? Do you mean the small metal bar? I think it’s part of the bracketing.

Plenty of interesting castles scattered throughout Europe – get yourself up here and you’ll find lots to explore.
