Hi Wendy. Botswana and South Africa are both outside of the malaria zone and have great wildlife viewing. Because of the water in the delta, you will be able to see some amazing animals in Bots, but the […]

I don’t have any experience with gorillas nor Uganda. However, as an outdoors guide, my experience with any nature adventure is that you are never guaranteed to see anything. On the other hand, you can also be […]

A few years ago, when I was in college, my family and I went to Kidepo Valley National Park in Uganda. We stayed at Apoka Lodge, which was really remote and absolutely incredible. It was one of the best […]

I am single and live in South Africa. Travelling and backpacking is quite safe if you stay on the main routes. Public transport can be a probllem, in some parts of the country.

BTW, the US State Department offers traveler warnings and many other countries offer similar advice. However, the countries do not necessarily always agree.

There are countries in Africa where you can go on a safari which are “generally” safe and others which are extremely risky (e.g., Somalia). I never felt threatened when I was in Botswana and the locals told me that their worst human problems were usually backpackers leaving without paying their bill. (Plus, it was an [...]

Hi Wendy, I can offer some tips and guidence, what area in Africa were you considering going to? With friends or taking the trip solo?
The basic level of personal safety depends on many factors, such as your travel experience and destination of travel.

i agree you’ll have a blast and won’t have any problem finding accommodation there, it’s always good to know where some of the places the guide books list are (definitely stay in the old medina area of marrkech). Like Craig said agree with your buddy on how much to spend and things like AC or [...]

That should be fine, with the caveat that you should both agree on what you expect from your accommodation, etc. beforehand. No point arguing with each other while a tout learns exactly what you want to hear. If you have a back-up accommodation plan in mind, and know fair pricing for your rooms, transport, etc, [...]

This is some great information guys. I’m glad to get some great responses. It makes a big difference knowing that some of the prices are a little bit more expensive than I was originally thinking. I really appreciate the responses and this helps a lot. I’ll try and post a thing or two that I [...]
