Cheap tours in Buenos Aires, Argentina

The following cheap tours in Buenos Aires are an excellent option for those short on time, or wanting to explore some of the many things to do without having to organise their own transport.

Buenos Aires walking tour

Starting at the Metropolitan Cathedral, you explore the history of the main square of Buenos Aires — Plaza de Mayo — with history and a guided explanation of several important buildings around the square, including the Casa Rosada.

From there, bus to El Caminito and explore a little of La Boca: one of the most popular things to do in Buenos Aires. There’s tango shows, local artists displaying their work, and a few pickpockets around.

Back on the bus, and onwards to San Telmo. See the Plaza Dorrego which will either be full of markets or cafes depending on the day. San Telmo has a lot of interesting little antique shops and restaurants — plus some great street art. After an orientation, the guide will leave you to lunch then explore at your own pace.

High-rises and Undergrounds

This tour also starts with a look at the Plaza de Mayo, Metropolitan Cathedral and Casa Rosada, but then veers in completely the opposite direction. Instead of taking the bus, head to Recoleta underground on the continent’s oldest subway.

Explore Recoleta cemetery — one of the world’s most beautiful —, and spot some famous graves, like Eva Peron’s — that’s Evita, if an image of Madonna hasn’t immediately sprung to mind. Not sure about visiting a cemetery? Take heart: it’s constantly voted as one of the best things to do in Buenos Aires.

The half-day tour finishes in Recoleta, so take the time to explore this beautiful old neighbourhood yourself.

Graffitimundo

An excellent tour exploring street art in Buenos Aires — one of the most developed scenes in the world. Knowledgeable and passionate guides work with local artists to unearth the stories behind the work and share them with you.

Tours focus on and around Palermo, but private coaches transport you between neighbourhoods. They finish at a bar/gallery where you have the chance to meet the current artist-in-residence, have a drink, and perhaps buy a piece of BA street art on canvas, or whatever other medium is at hand.
