  • You should definitely stay for at least one night in Vernazza in the Cinque Terre. Those towns are incredible. Remember, it's pronounced "Cheenkweh Terra" not "Sinkwah Terra". Cinque is "five" in Italian. The hikes from Vernazza to Riomaggiore and from Vernazza to Monterosso al Mare are the best and if you're tired, you can just take the train back.

    • Thanks Christina; I guess we went a little Spanish on that pronunciation, as we had a few people email us about it as well! It's been a while since we were last in Italy, and the sounds always take a little while to come back. Great hiking recommendations, much appreciated!

  • LOL! I do the same thing with any language I try to learn. :-) My husband and I stayed in Vernazza for about a week in an apartment right on the square. That square was better than anything ever on TV. http://www.skylarkingworld.com/2007/08/20/cinque-terre-italy/

  • I forgot to mention, the town was severely flooded about a year ago and they are in the process of re-building. I'm not sure how everything looks right now, but Vernazza seems to be getting a lot of help from neighboring areas.

    • Thanks Christina! We're trying to see if we can fit it in, but what on earth do we drop?! Looks like you had an amazing time there.
