Cheap accommodation in Buenos Aires is available in several central neighbourhoods. Our budget accommodation reviews should help you choose from amongst the best.
Kaixo Hostel Central
Tte.Gral.Juan D. Perón 1267, Buenos Aires, Argentina 1038
Kaixo has one of the most-central positions of all the budget accommodation in Buenos Aires. Just a few blocks from the Obelisk, Avenida Corrientes (and all the shows and things to do there). We really enjoyed staying at Kaixo in 2010 and 2011: there’s a friendly atmosphere; small, comfortable dorms; it’s clean throughout; and it has one of the nicest private doubles we’ve ever seen in a hostel — complete with a private bookshelf!
Recent reviews have complained it has attracted more semi-permanent residents that create an in-group feeling, but hopefully this will soon pass.
Tango & Bandoneon
San José 574, Buenos Aires, Argentina 1046

Tango & Bandoneon is located in San Telmo — close to the markets there and around 10 minutes walk from the metro. This is one of the few hostels I’ve seen with a 100% cleanliness rating! (In November 2011.)
“Tango & Bandoneon is a quiet, relaxing and friendly place where you can feel at home. It’s family run in order to make your stay in Buenos Aires a very special experience.”
Membrillar Residential House
Membrillar 820, Buenos Aires, Argentina 1406
This new hostel is run by a couple who have recently finished their own travels. Located in Flores, it’s a little away from many of the microcentro tourist attractions, but close to the E line — so it’s just a metro ride away. If you’re looking to explore rather than to sightsee, this might just be the place to be.
America del Sur Hostel Buenos Aires
Chacabuco 718, between Chile & Independencia, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Another San Telmo hostel, America del Sur features a modern look and feel, small (four-bed) dorms, and comfortable private rooms. Unlike most hostels, America del Sur has handicapped facilities, making it easy for less-mobile visitors to the city. Just three blocks from the 9 de Julio metro makes for easy access to the rest of the city.
